My artistic talent was evident at an early age. My parents’ home was frequently adorned with my latest artistic offering. As I became older I realised that art was not something I did for pleasure, it was like a creative force deep within me.
An Art and Design course at Yeovil College gave me a good foundation of skills with different art mediums. Around the time I left college I was employed at Dennis Chinaworks in Somerset, initially to glaze pots and then moving on to become a decorator. I loved the creativity of decorating and over the years I progressed to the position of principal decorator. I am really privileged to know some of my finest pieces of decoration have sold for thousands of pounds at Bohnams Auction House. Whilst decorating was exciting and fulfilling, my real passion was for designing. I felt like I was bursting with design ideas so I began to create my own ceramic artwork.
In 2012 I launched my website which showcased my first range of designs. Although I was very excited to share my creative ideas with the world, I was a little nervous too, because as an artist you put so much of yourself into the creative process and you really want your artwork to be well received. I am thrilled to say that any nervousness soon took flight. I was amazed by all the positive comments about the artwork I had created.
It has been incredible to see how enthusiastically collectors connected with my ceramic artwork, with some designs selling out as soon as they were released. As an artist there is no higher accolade than seeing your creations take their places in loving homes and gain places in a museum to form part of the history of decorative ceramic art.
