In my Battling Dragon design I have created a dragon that symbolises our ability to overcome hardships or difficult times in our lives. The dragon is battling with creatures from the deep, a vicious mermaid representing temptation, a sea serpent representing false hope, an octopus representing self-criticism and a lobster representing self-doubt. Symbolically the dragon represents our inner struggle at times to overcome powerful negative feelings.
When researching for this piece I found a quote by Noela Evans that read “Challenge is a dragon with a gift in its mouth, tame the dragon and the gift is yours”. I felt compelled to add the quote to the piece because it really represented what I was creating with the design. Taming the dragon for me represents our inner battle with negative thoughts and the gift we gain is the ability for us to overcome the obstacles and challenges we face.
The subject matter for this piece required careful thoughts about possible colours. I wanted the mood of the piece to reflect the struggles it represents which is why I have created a turbulent sea and dark unforgiving skies.
I have used the Battling Dragon design on two shapes. On the extra large piece the dragon is battling with all of the sea monsters. On the large shape the dragon is battling with one at a time.
This piece is a limited edition of 5.
