I have always been intrigued by Celtic Artwork, particularly the intricacy of the knot patterns and their meaning. This is the second knot work design I have created, my first being the Celtic Dragon. With this piece I wanted to adapt the knot work and create a fantasy bird.
Birds have many special meanings in folklore. One of the meanings attributed to them which interested me was that they are associated with new beginnings and the birth of spring.
With the Celtic Bird design my aim was to convey the natural world but through a slightly different lens like so many of the masters did in their works. I wanted to create a bird that had a few realistic attributes and I merged these with more fantastical features.
I have used the design on a new miniature tower shape and also my existing small tower shape. The miniature Celtic Bird towers are limited to 25.
Recommended retail price £200.
The miniature tower measures 4 3/4" high, (all measurements are approximate).
