Penguin Ice Church

I believe that art should touch people in many ways and on many levels and it is important to me that I reach out to people with every piece I create, so that it touches them in some way. I wanted the Penguin Ice Church to be fun and for people to smile and laugh when they looked at it.

I think too often art can be taken too seriously so I created this piece to convey fun and humour. With this design I wanted to convey that it is important to remember that we know how to laugh and love, particularly in a world where there are many painful experiences that can deprive us of our ability to recall that we can be happy.

Each side of the Penguin Ice Church is a different design. I particularly like the way each penguin is taking on a traditional role in construction. Every time I look at the piece it makes me smile.

I also think it is important to stretch design ideas beyond the natural world into the subjective world of mystery and creativity. I am influenced by the work of great artists such as William Morris. I think he is an excellent example in showing us the natural world through a different lens.

Recommended retail price £982.

The large towers are 17” high by 6” wide at the base and 4” wide at the top (all measurements are approximate).
